Institute of Social Rehabilitation
Institute of Social Rehabilitation in Broad Outline -
Novosibirsk Institute of Social Rehabilitation (NISR) was organized in 1992 according to Russian Federation Government instruction N 1603-p and by the order of Higher School Committee N 603 of the Oct. 1, 1992 as a special rehabilitative and educational establishment for persons with limited abilities. According to Government's resolution N 807and by the State Committee's of RF order in higher education N 1253 of Aug. 30, 1995 the NISR was reorganized and joined to Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU). The Institute was created in Novosibirsk - a large scientific, cultural and historical centre of Siberia.
Goals and Features of the Institute -
The main functional task of the Institute is to facilitate integration of handicapped people into society.
Structure and Education -
Special technology of the handicaped people's rehabilitation demands
a specific approach to establishment organization: special structure,
status, normative acts, special organization of rehabilitative and
educational process
Hearing and Speech Recovery Department -
Significant attention is paid to work at hearing and speech recovery and also at communicative practice. They are both aimed to overcome the results of deafness and hearing impair. While the process of training students acquire methods of speech, master speech perception methods and also pronunciation, learn to use speech in their communication with environment.
Social-rehabilitation Bloc -
Social rehabilitation of young people with specific features of their
development is a significant part of the general goal of the Institute.
Educational - Laboratorial Base and Finance -
Institute of Social Rehabilitation is a state educational establishment.
Student's Life (activities) -
There are various schools: dancing, pantomime, mute-singing etc.
Scientific and Methodological Activities -
The methodological seminars are held regularly with the aim to
accumulate and systematize the methodological experience. Different
problems are discussed here: various aspects of education, everyday
life and health of young people with limited abilities. Reports of
specialists in hearing and speech recovery, pedagogical, medical,
scientific and other spheres are delivered.

International Activities -
The program of foreign relations development in the ISR NSTU
includes spreading of information of the progress of the deaf
and hard of hearing students' rehabilitation and training process,
establishment of contacts with similar institutions for handicapped
people abroad in order to exchange experience. The second direction
of the international relation Department's activity is organizing
students' and teachers' mobility and the third one is work to involve
ISR NSTU into matching humanitarian projects with the aim of getting
grants for further development of the rehabilitation and educational
process.
